Ex-Barcelona star Dani Alves sentenced to four years in jail for sexual assault: Dani Alves, a former defender for Barcelona, was found guilty in 2022 of sexually abusing a woman in a nightclub.

He was given a four and a half year prison sentence by Catalonia’s highest court on Thursday.
Alves was also mandated by the court to provide the victim €150,00.

“The sentence considers that it has been proven that the victim did not consent and that there is evidence, in addition to the testimony of the plaintiff, to consider the rape proven,” the court said in a statement.
The sex, according to Alves, was consensual.

His attorneys informed reporters following the verdict that he plans to appeal the sentence.
The incident occurred in the early hours of December 31, 2022, and the 40-year-old was first taken into custody in January 2023.
