Breaking News: Peseiro quits as Super Eagles coach: This is in response to his contract expiring shortly after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which has just finished.

The Portuguese strategist called coaching the Super Eagles an honor and a source of pride in a series of tweets posted on his X account on Friday.
Along with his backroom crew, Peseiro announced his departure, acknowledging that they will miss the squad, “but we will always be there for you.”

“Yesterday, we concluded our contract with the NFF.
“It was a pride and honor to coach the Super Eagles. It has been 22 months of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion, and enormous enthusiasm. We feel a sense of fulfillment.
“We would like to express our gratitude to Sir Amaju Pinnick (the president who signed us), President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, Secretary Dayo Enebi, the NFF, all the Staff, and especially all the PLAYERS, with whom leading has been a great pleasure.
“Guys, we are thankful; it has been a privilege to be part of this family. We will miss you, but we will always be there for you, no matter where you are. A big hug to all of you.”
Coach Jose Peseiro, who guided Nigeria to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, has piqued the interest of the Algeria Football Federation.

This happened after Djamel Belmadi was let go after an appalling showing at the recently finished AFCON competition.
Belmadi was sacked after the country was unable to progress past the Group stages.
Peseiro guided Nigeria to the 34th AFCON championship game, where they were defeated 2–1 by the Ivory Coast hosts.

Walid Sadi, the president of the Algerian football federation, is reportedly impressed by Peseiro’s qualifications and is open to speaking with the Portuguese strategist about taking over as head coach of their national team, according to the Algerian daily DZ Foot.
“Not made public, the shortlist established by the ad-hoc commission set up by the FAF, is made up of three names, namely José Peseiro (63 years old), Vladimir Petkovic (60 years old) and Carlos Queiroz (70 years old),” the website wrote.
Notwithstanding the fact that Carlos Queiroz’s name has recently resurfaced as the FAF’s ultimate selection, our knowledge indicates that José Peseiro will ultimately be Walid Sadi’s preferred option.
