Ex-Dutch international Promes ordered to pay for stabbing cousin: After stabbing his cousin in the leg in 2020, former Ajax and Netherlands international winger Quincy Promes was ordered by a Dutch court on Tuesday to compensate the cousin.

The 32-year-old, who currently plays for Spartak Moscow, was previously given an 18-month prison sentence for attacking someone at a birthday celebration in relation to a stolen necklace.
A later time will specify the amount of compensation. The cousin’s attorneys have reportedly demanded about one million euros ($1.1 million), but the actual sum will probably be less.

Promes has not shown up in court, and efforts to bring him out of Russia have not succeeded. At every turn, he had appealed and disputed the charges.
Promes’s villa that he purchased while playing for Ajax has been confiscated amid questions about his ability to pay.
Intercepted wiretaps from another case involving Promes and cocaine smuggling set off the inquiry into the stabbing.

The winger was accused in May of bringing in several hundred kg of cocaine in 2020 via the Antwerp port in Belgium.
In that case, the prosecution has requested a nine-year prison sentence. The decision must be made by February 14.
Promes participated in the national squad for the Euro 2020 championships, which were played in 2021 due to Covid, and earned 50 caps while scoring seven goals; but has since stopped donning the orange jersey.

In 2019, he made a 15 million euro transfer from Sevilla to Amsterdam’s Ajax, only to return to Spartak in 2021.
