AFCON: Ojougboh, 4 others die watching Super Eagles/Bafana semi-final match:Â During Wednesday night’s African Cup of Nations, or AFCON, semi-final between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Cote D’Ivoire, at least five Nigerians lost their lives.

Even after the Super Eagles overcame the Bafana in penalty shootouts, the game was tense.
Ayuba Abdullahi, Mikail Osundiji of the Olomoore area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, Deputy Bursar at Kwara State University, Malete, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a corps member serving in Adamawa State, and other prominent members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, are among those reported to have died while watching the match.

Additionally, it was alleged that one businessman from Anambra, Osondu Nwoye, who was based in Cote d’Ivoire, reportedly passed away in a hospital after collapsing inside the stadium.
According to reports, Ojougboh, a former representative for Delta State’s Ika Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, slumped at his Abuja home while he watched the game.
Abdullahi was killed by the intense tension that preceded the match as he was at a viewing center in the Sango district of Kwara state.

During the penalty kick, he passed away.
Samuel was a National Youth Service Corps member who also lost his life in the penalty shootout.
The Kaduna State corps member is said to have died shortly prior to the game-winning kick that gave Nigeria the victory.
