Super Eagles surge to 28th place globally after AFCON Silver Win: The Super Eagles of Nigeria, the runners-up at the Africa Cup of Nations, jumped 14 spots to rank 28th globally in the February FIFA ranking.

The club received 1,522 points in the ranking table that was posted on the world football governing body’s website on Thursday, compared to 1,474 points in December 2023.

The Super Eagles’ ascent continues, placing them third on the continent after Senegal and Morocco, with 1663 (12th) and 1620 (17th) points, respectively.

Nonetheless, Cote d’Ivoire, the recently crowned African champions, enjoyed the fruits of their continental victory at home as they rose ten places to 39th place.

South Africa, the runner-up in the AFCON, rose eight places to 58th place, while Egypt (36th), Cameroon (51st), and Ghana (67th) fell after their early elimination from the AFCON 2023.

The biggest climbers in the most recent global ranking are the Angolan team, who were knocked out in the last eight (93rd, up 24).

Two-time Asian Cup winners Qatar (37th, up 21) have amassed the largest point total (92.04) after successfully defending their continental title by taking advantage of home comforts.

However, Thailand (101st, up 12) and Jordan (70th, up 17), who were eliminated in the final, both improve. Thailand’s run ended in the last-16.
