Apply Now – Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) Jim Ovia Scholarship
The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) established the Scholarship to encourage the advancement of education and research and to give back to the Society. Scholarships are the greatest and most efficient way for bright students to be given the chance to fulfill their ambitions of receiving a high-quality education that will last a lifetime.
High impact research will be supported and educational scholarships will be given out of this money. It will improve the country’s performance in IT education and research and give many currently excluded people the opportunity to take advantage of IT education and research possibilities and reach their full potential.
Nigeria requires enough people with the right expertise to survive and prosper in the knowledge economy, making human capital in information technology a major national priority.
Through this initiative, NCS demonstrates remarkable commitment to Nigeria’s long-term development by vastly expanding opportunities for information technology education and research across the country.

members at the undergraduate and graduate levels of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) and the Nigerian Association of Computing Students (NACOS).
Trophy Categories
Categories for Awards:
- 5 PhD candidates
- 10 master’s degree candidates
- 20 undergraduates
Application Guidelines
- All undergraduate and graduate students (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) studying computer science and information technology—including software engineering, cybersecurity, computer engineering, information systems, artificial intelligence, robotics, etc.—are eligible for the scholarship.
- Only applicants from Nigerian Federal and State Universities may apply.
- Second-Class Upper is the bare minimal need.
- The Award/Grants are anticipated to be used for books, housing, and tuition.
- The Scholarship, Awards, and Grants are determined by the actions and visibility of the applicants at the local chapter and national levels of the Society.
- The Award is a one-time chance during a study course.
- Subject to good academic progress, the scholarship amount is awarded twice over two sessions.
- The fund is available to registered and financially responsible NCS members (Indigents).
Postgraduate (Ph.D. & M.Sc.) Application Procedures Specifics:
these are the required Procedures
- letter of admission.
- Academic Achievement and Certificates, duly signed and stamped:
- Both Ph.D. and M.Sc. applicants must have a B.Sc. qualification with a minimum of second class upper.
- semester outcomes
- PhD candidates: 1st and 2nd semester results for the first year
- First Year first semester results for M.Sc. applicants
- Project-level applicants are not allowed to apply.
- Justification for the scholarship, signed.
- A two-page proposal, which is ONLY necessary for postgraduate awards.
- Two letters of recommendation from the organization, each fully stamped and signed (by the HOD, Dean, or Vice-Chancellor, etc.).
- suggested budget.
discharge certificate from NYSC. - a yearly progress report required for grant renewal.
- Evidence of previous involvement with National and Chapters, including participation in conferences and workshops.
- a letter of reference from the NCS Chapter to which the applicant belongs, demonstrating the applicant’s level
- of commitment with the Society.Project-level applicants are not allowed to apply.

Specifics for Undergraduates (BSc.):
The completed form must be accompanied with the following documents:
- Admission letter
- Eligibility
- Students on the 100th level are not eligible to apply.
- (For a five-year course) 200 level to 400 level
- From 200 through 300 (for a 4-year programme)
- the previous session’s academic results, duly signed and stamped.
- a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) that is at least upper-second class
- official letter of recommendation from the HOD, stamped and signed.
- a copy of your NCS Membership Number as proof of your NACOS membership.
