About UNAOC

As of January 7, 2019, H.E. Mr. Miguel Angel Moratinos took over as the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations from H.E. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, who had succeeded H.E. Mr. Jorge Sampaio.

The High Representative and Secretariat of the UN Alliance of Civilizations have their administrative and operational centers in New York. The Alliance maintains a global network of partners, which consists of governments, international and regional organizations, civil society organizations, foundations, and the private sector, in order to enhance cross-cultural ties across various nations and communities.

Regarding the Grant

Applications from youth-led organizations are being accepted for the UNAOC’s Youth Solidarity Fund (YSF) cycle that begins in 2023. Applications are accepted from organizations that promote social inclusion, greater communication, and mutual respect across boundaries, cultures, and worldviews.

Youth-run organizations that advance an inclusive and peaceful society receive financial support from the Youth Solidarity Fund (YSF). Seed funding is provided for initiatives that show innovative and effective intercultural or interreligious communication techniques. Additionally, UNAOC offers assistance in developing capacity to help youth-led organizations improve the efficiency of their project execution.

Once Again, programs being financed are geared toward and driven by youngsters. Young people are those who are between the ages of 18 and 35, as described by UNAOC. The programs generally target youth, but they also affect entire communities and frequently involve political or religious authorities, public sector decision-makers, as well as academic institutions and the media.

It encourages the implementation of several international policy frameworks by including youth in the creation of inclusive and peaceful societies.

Eligibility criteria for UNAOC Youth Solidarity Fund

The activities funded by the YSF are aimed at young people from a range of backgrounds, including students, marginalized youth, minorities, children from rural or urban regions, young people involved in conflict or the aftermath of conflict, artists, and activists.

Furthermore, To be eligible, applying youth organizations need to fulfill every one of the following criteria:

  • Be youth-led: Women and men between the ages of 18 and 35 have the majority of positions and positions of decision-making within the organization;
  • Aso be a non-profit, non-governmental organization (apart from national youth councils) authorized to operate as a trust, foundation, association, or charity in the country where it is based;
  • Be properly registered and in operation for at least two years before the application deadline for projects with financing bases (starting operations in April 2021 or earlier);
  • Be incorporated and conduct business in one of the nations indicated;
  • Possess a democratic system of governance and decision-making, which incorporates participatory procedures when establishing priorities and policies;
  • Possess the capacity to show proper and regular monitoring, evaluation, and record-keeping of their actions, including financial reports and project evaluation reports;
  • Their personnel, beneficiaries, and activities reflect a gender perspective or balance;
  • Have no adherence to, identification with, or animosity toward any nation, culture, religion, or system of belief, ethnic group, gender, etc.; and Also
  • Did not get help from the Intercultural Innovation Hub or financing under previous YSF iterations.

Also NOTE: Application package must contain the following and be submitted through the online application system accessible at UNAOC website.

  • Application form that has been filled out and then approved by the applicant’s organization;
  • A duplicate of the applicant’s organization’s registration certificate;
  • Once Again, duplicate of the applicant’s organization’s statutes and bylaws;
  • An organizational chart that shows the ages of the organization’s top decision-makers;
  • A maximum of one page long biography of the current executive or managing director that includes their birthdate;
  • A maximum of two pages long resume or CV for the project coordinator;
  • A photo or image of the passport identity page for the project organizer. Also upload the project coordinator’s national identification card if they don’t have a passport.

Finally, You must adhere to the word/character limits for each question on the application form. Words and characters are automatically counted by the application system.

Deadline: Sunday, May 14, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in New York is the application deadline.
