The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has postponed the strike that was set to begin on Wednesday in protest over the elimination of the petrol subsidy.
Following a six-hour meeting between the Federal Government and organised labour at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the resolution was announced by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, and confirmed by the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero. On the concerns relating to the elimination of the petrol subsidy, a 7-point decision was agreed during the conference.
The creation of a joint committee made up of representatives from the Federal Government and organised labour to examine recommendations for salary increases upward is another important decision.

The World Bank-financed cash distribution programme will also be examined, with an emphasis on suggesting that low-income people be included in the programme.
On June 19, 2023, the parties will meet again to decide on an implementation plan.
