Transfer: Tuchel confirms Dier is set to sign with Bayern: Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed the likely signing of England defender Eric Dier from Tottenham on Thursday, telling reporters that “he is in Munich.”
Tuchel told reporters on Thursday, “We’re trying to sign him, finalise the deal, and get another alternative for our squad.”
Dier landed in Munich on Thursday for a medical check, telling Sky Germany, “Bayern is a wonderful club.”
The 29-year-old played for Tottenham for a decade and will be reunited with former colleague Harry Kane in the Bavarian city.
Tuchel has been looking for defensive reinforcements, especially with Kim Min-Jae due to miss many games while representing South Korea at the Asian Cup.”
Tuchel now has only two recognised center-backs in the team, Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano, as a result of Kim’s absence.
With 49 appearances, he has three goals for England.
Dier’s Tottenham tally of games this season is just four.
With a game remaining, Bayern is four points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga standings.
After the winter break, the German champions will resume play on Friday at home against Hoffenheim.
Dier was born in England but grew up in Portugal before joining Tottenham from his boyhood club Sporting Lisbon in 2014.
