South Africa accuses Israel of genocide over Gaza war: In favour of the government’s “genocide” case against Israel, dozens of people demonstrated in the streets of Cape Town on Thursday. Similar protests are scheduled to take place around South Africa.

Pro-Palestinian protestors with posters that included, “Stop the genocide” and “Boycott apartheid Israel” were gathered on the steps of the High Court in the port city of Cape Town, in the southwest.

Some people chanted, “Free Palestine.” There will be further protests in Cape Town and other places.

There is a match between robed officials from Israel and South Africa at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Netherlands.

Israel is allegedly violating the UN Genocide Convention, according to South Africa, which also claims that Israel’s bombardment and invasion of Gaza are “intended to bring about the destruction of a substantial part of the Palestinian national, racial, and ethnic group.

As he arrived in The Hague to assist the legal team, Justice Minister Ronald Lamola told national broadcaster SABC, “This case is important to stop the genocide that is currently happening in the Gaza Strip.”

As “atrocious” and “preposterous,” Israeli President Isaac Herzog dismissed the charges.

With the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party frequently tying the Palestinian plight to its own fight against apartheid, South Africa has long been a prominent supporter of the Palestinian cause.

Because of Israel’s reaction to the Hamas strikes on October 7, it severed diplomatic ties with the country.
