He attended Government Science School, Kuru (1983–1986) and Government Secondary School, Riyom (1981–1983), both in Plateau State. This was where he earned his WASC/SC in 1986. Dangut then continued on to the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, where he graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production.

Dangut completed his PhD in animal science at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, in 2017. After earning a Master of Science in animal science from the University of Ibadan in April 1994. In 2020, he received a second Master of Education from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in Administration and Planning.
In 1998, Dangut became an Assistant Registrar (AR) II at WAEC. By April of 2018, he had risen through the ranks to the position of Deputy Registrar. Between 2000 and 2006, he received recognition from the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC). This was for his fair and honest administration of exams.
