Less than a week after President Bola Tinubu nominated Olukoyede and sent his name to the Senate for confirmation, the senators formally ratified his appointment.
Four months had passed since the youngest and immediate previous chair of the panel, Abdulrasheed Bawa, was suspended before his nomination.
Olukoyede stated he would do his role with diligence if the senators approved his nomination during his appearance before the Senate on Wednesday.
He continued by saying that, under his direction, the EFCC will pursue financial crimes committed by politicians of all stripes.
Following a rigorous interrogation by the MPs, the Senate approved his candidacy.
The MPs also approved Muhammad Hammajoda’s nomination to the anti-graft agency’s secretary position.
Olukoyede is the first southern Nigerian Nigerian to lead the EFCC.
Protesters invaded the National Assembly to challenge Olukoyede’s confirmation, according to a story published earlier by Pulse. Shallipopi announces his label Plutomania Records, unveils 2 new artists
The demonstrators claimed that his nomination went against the current legislation governing the selection of the chairman of the EFCC.
Adebayo Ogorry, the organization’s national secretary, said that Olukoyede’s appointment violated the law.
