Court admits ex-CBN governor Emefiele to N300m bail: Former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele has been granted bail in the amount of 300 million naira with two sureties in the same amount by Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Emefiele is required to deposit his travel documents.
The former CBN governor was given bail by the court, along with two sureties who had to be Maitama landowners and submit the properties’ certificates of occupancy.

In addition, the court mandates that he return his travel documents to the court, stay within the Federal Capital Territory, and request permission from the court before leaving.
Judge Muazu has set November 28 for the start of the entire trial in the interim.
Emefiele entered a not guilty plea. This was to a six-count revised charge presented against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at his final Friday court appearance.

The 20 counts that were originally brought against the former governor of the CBN have been lowered to six, costing N1.6 billion. In the new charge, Emefiele is the only defendant.
The updated charge sheet indicates that procurement fraud is still a possibility in these counts. According to the Federal Government, Emefiele fraudulently purchased 43 automobiles for N1.2 billion between 2018 and 2020. “That you, Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele, male, adult, sometime in 2018 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did use your position as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria to confer a corrupt advantage on Sa’adatu Ramallan Yaro, a staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria by awarding a contract for the supply of 37 Toyota Hilux Vehicles at the cost of N854,700,000 only to April1616 Investment Ltd, a company in which the said Sa’adatu Ramallan Yaro is a director and thereby committed an offence.”
Emefiele was charged in the second count with corruptly giving Yaro an advantage through his position.
