African Union (AU) Internship Program 2024 for young Africans

PURPOSE:

Furthermore, the program seeks to develop candidate personal and professional abilities and expose them to the operations of the AU at an early stage of their professional careers. It gives candidates a chance to practice their skills in a variety of relevant professions while learning about other cultures. All candidates who are adequately knowledgeable and also skilled in the subject matter will lend their support to the AU and possibly act as a breeding ground for future African leaders.

  • Actively enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program for at least the last year OR
  • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree or a graduate-level certificate (Masters) in a relevant academic discipline;
  •  Applicants must be citizens of an African Union Member State.
  • Applicants must also speak at least one of the working languages of the African Union, which are Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese, with proficiency.
  • At the time of choosing, you must be no older than 32 years old.
  • Exhibit the highest level of morality and honesty.
  • For internship jobs, prior work experience is not necessary.

Where will the Award Take Place?

Internships at AU are full time and interns are expected to work Monday to Friday, 08:00 am to 5:00 pm for the period of the internship.

Who is Eligible for an AU internship?

The following individuals may apply to the program:

  • citizens of the member nations of the African Union;
    graduates from an accredited institution of higher learning, or students studying full time in postgraduate or undergraduate study (in their final year of study);
  • being fluent in one of the official working languages of the AU (Kiswahili, Arabic, English, French, or one of the four
  • Candidates must be between the ages of 22 and 32 when they apply;
    satisfy the criteria outlined in the terms of reference.

What is the Benefit of Award?

Interns are not given any financial assistance or reimbursement for living expenses while on assignment from AU. Also know that all accepted candidates are required to make their own plans for travel, accommodation, and daily living costs throughout the internship time.

The AU Internship Program lasts for how long?

Interns will be admitted for a minimum of three months for the internship to be valuable and also effective, with the option of an additional three months based on the candidate’s performance and the host Department/Division/Unit’s willingness.

AU Applications Requirements

Applications for admission to the AU Internship Program are submitted online.

Applicants must submit the following supporting documents with their online application:
•    A motivation letter indicating what they expect to gain out of the internship program
•    A copy of a valid passport or national identity card
•    Certified copies of relevant academic certificates
•    Current curriculum vitae (CV)
•    Recommendation letter for internship from the institution of learning that they are attending
•   Once again, upon successful submission of their application, candidates will receive an email confirmation that their application has been successfully received.
